Hi all. A newbie wants to make sure he's on the right track. 3 pin xlr to TRS wiring is straight forward.

But the question is, with the 5 pin xlr (from a mic) is it correct to link pins 2 & 3 and wire to Tip(left), and link pins 4 & 5 and wire to Ring(right). OR should I ignore pins 3 and 5 altogether, and wire pin 2 to Tip and 4 to Ring.

I'm great at the practical soldering part, just rubbish with the technical stuff.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi all

I recently purchased a cheap second hand desk (Tapco mix 120), while in the store I noticed a mic they where selling for $19.00 AUD. Seeing as the price was so low I figured I had nothing to loose by buying it. After beating the salesman down to $15.00 I took the mic home and was surprised by how sweet it sounded. I have looked on the net but can't find any info on this mic, ie: is it a vocal or instrument mic. Could someone please let me know if they know anything about it. Audix UD-50

Kind regards
Paul

My son's electric guitar amplifier has a mono, 1/4" phono plug for the input, and that receptacle is soldered to a circuit board. The jack is broken, and missing the metal sleeve insert, so I think I need to replace the jack.

I found a replacement part at Radio Shack and it has 2 tabs as I would have expected.
(signal and common)
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103415

I haven't removed the existing receptacle from the board yet, but it seems to have four contact points with the pcb.

Why four?
Any insights?

Other suggestions?

Thanks,
Nate
